The first American edition of the author's account of three years in the Himalayas during very turbulent times that witnessed amongst other things the Chinese annexation of Tibet.

Rene de Nebesky-Wojkowitz's was a brilliant Austrian anthropologist, who is most widely remember for his seminal study of Tibetan Protective Deities, "Oracles and Demons of Tibet."
